For dismantlers and auto recyclers

Safety software for vehicle dismantlers, with EPA records

A dismantler’s yard has heavy plant, stacked wrecks and everything that comes out of a car: fluids, batteries, refrigerant and airbags. WorkshopSafe keeps the checks for the plant and the records of what came out.

What the dismantler starter list sets up

Tick Dismantler when you start and WorkshopSafe loads its starter list: 21 pieces of equipment and 32 checks, each with how often and who does it. Among them:

  • Fluid drain station: a daily check.
  • Drained fluids store and used battery store: weekly checks, and a monthly collection.
  • Refrigerant recovery unit: a monthly check.
  • Car crusher and forklift: a daily pre-start check, and a yearly service.
  • Engine cranes and lifting gear: a monthly check, and an inspection every six months.
  • Vehicle stacks and the wreck yard: daily walk-arounds.
  • Damaged battery quarantine bay: a weekly check, and a yearly EV battery fire drill, with the insulating gloves and voltage tester checked too.

The hoist, compressor, waste oil, separator, used tyre cage, airbag store and hot work area come with it. Change any of it to suit your yard.

Each piece of plant gets its own QR label. Whoever is on the forklift or crusher that morning scans it, enters their PIN and ticks the pre-start; a fail can carry a photo. Collections of drained fluids, batteries and tyres are recorded with the collector, so each one is on file.

WorkshopSafe’s starter checklist in the live demo, with Dismantler ticked: the fluid drain station, used batteries, refrigerant recovery, airbags, damaged EV batteries, the car crusher, forklift and vehicle stacks, with what it adds to the demo site’s register
Settings, Starter checklist, in the live demo: tick Dismantler and load it. Each card counts what it adds to that site’s register, so a site that already has some of the equipment sees fewer.

Who asks for what: WorkSafe, EPA and NMI

EPA

The list follows EPA Victoria’s guideline for auto recyclers: a record of fluids drained from each wreck, Waste Tracker records for drained fluids and other priority waste, runoff kept out of the stormwater, the used tyre lines, and EPA permission if your activities need one.

WorkSafe

High risk work licences for forklift and crane operators, safe work procedures for draining, gas cutting, lifting and crushing, isolating EV batteries, an EV battery fire plan, noise, and risk assessments for falling stacks.

NMI

Not part of the dismantler list. Refrigerant licences are marked for ARCtick instead.

With 25 readiness lines, ranking matters: each is ranked by what a gap could lead to. WorkshopSafe keeps the records; it does not replace advice from a qualified safety professional.
