For body shops and panel beaters

Body shop safety software: spray booth, chemicals and SDS register

A panel and paint shop carries more plant and more chemicals than most workshops. WorkshopSafe keeps the spray booth’s checks, the breathing air tests and the chemicals register with its safety data sheets in one place.

What the panel and paint starter list sets up

Tick Panel and paint when you start and WorkshopSafe loads its starter list: 18 pieces of equipment and 26 checks, each with how often and who does it. Among them:

  • Spray booth: a weekly check, a yearly service, a six-monthly service of the interlocks and fire suppression, and yearly checks of the hazardous-area electrics and the oven and burner.
  • Breathing air and air-fed masks: a monthly mask check, and a breathing air quality test every six months.
  • Frame machine: a monthly check, and a yearly service.
  • Paint mixing room and flammable liquids store: monthly checks.
  • Waste solvent and paint drums: a weekly check, and a monthly collection.
  • Hot work area, welders and fume extraction: weekly and monthly checks.
  • Dust extraction, sanders, curing lamps, air tools, the air dryer, the airbag store and glass handling gear: monthly checks.

Every site also gets a hazardous chemicals register, with a line on the readiness list for a safety data sheet (SDS) for every chemical on site. An SDS more than five years old shows up as a gap.

Each booth, mask and drum store gets its own QR label. A painter scans it, enters their PIN and ticks the check; a fail can carry a photo. Visits from the booth’s service company and the breathing air tester are recorded against the same equipment, with their certificates attached.

Settings, Starter checklist, in the live demo: tick Panel and paint and load it. Each card counts what it adds to that site’s register, so a site that already has some of the equipment sees fewer.

Who asks for what: WorkSafe, EPA and NMI

WorkSafe

The readiness list adds respirator fit testing for everyone who sprays, breathing air test certificates, health monitoring for anyone exposed to isocyanates, noise assessment and hearing protection, a hot work procedure with a fire watch, and safe work procedures for airbags and glass.

EPA

Waste Tracker records for waste solvent and paint sit on the readiness list, beside the drums’ weekly check and their collection.

NMI

Nothing for a body shop. The list is about plant, people and chemicals.

Each line is ranked by what a gap could lead to. WorkshopSafe keeps the records; it does not replace advice from a qualified safety professional.
